UPVC Replacement Door Handles
The handles on your doors wear out over time and will need to be replaced. When replacing them, it is essential that the new handles match the critical dimensions of the previous handle.
The three measurements to check are the top screw's position the lever and key hole sizes. Use the size guide to help you.
Inline Lever/Lever
A lever handle is a modern door handle designed to suit new or replacement handles for windows doors. This style of handle is available in many styles and finishes. A number of manufacturers offer this type of handle, including Avocet ERA, Fullex, Hoppe, Mila, Millenco & Yale.
Fab and Fix Windsor Inline Sprung Lever Door Handle
The handles of uPVC/Composite are constructed of tough materials and are ideal for doors with multiple points that require a robust design. The handles are inline, and they use the same spindle and screws to secure them. They can be easily mounted on a new or existing uPVC/Composite door.
The handle can be positioned and angled to fit all users. The handle has been tested to 200 000 cycles. This ensures that the quality of finish and performance will last for a long time. The sprung lever is also adjustable to fit a wide range of locks. This is particularly beneficial in doors with smaller door frames where the cylinder is located further back. A shortened lever is also an ideal choice for doors where the latch could be activated by the thumb turn on the inside.
Lever Pad
The lever pad upvc handle differs from the lever handles that are commonly found on doors. These handle types are either operated by one spindle, or two spindles inline or offset. They are typically employed on UPVC double glazed doors. They come in many variations & styles.
The handles are available in various finishes, including White chrome and Gold. The finish is in line with BS EN 1670:2007 Grade 5 and is also resistant to corrosion, giving the handle a high level of durability and performance for the intended use.
All UPVC handle lever pads come with a spindle, screws and can be mounted on a uPVC door. The backplate fixation centres of 211mm permit a larger handle, which is typically an advantage when replacing a damaged or old multi-point door lock mechanism. These handle levers are also spring-loaded, which solves the issue of handles that slide from their horizontal position when they are not being used.
When choosing a replacement UPVC handle and spindle, it is crucial to match the PZ dimensions of the multipoint lock as well as the uPVC door. This measurement is often known as the "handle centre" or "cylinder centres which is a crucial aspect in ensuring that you have the appropriate handles.
Once you have decided on the proper PZ size and the correct PZ size, you must ensure that the lever and push pads are designed to fit the American with Disabilities Act compliant handles that you need for your door. These are usually round or square with an internal lever and an external push pad.
The majority of UPVC Lever Pads that we sell are sprung. This means they can be reverted to a horizontal position after they are not in use, rather than hanging and possibly being stuck in the frame. This prevents drafts and cold air from entering a home. Also, the majority of the UPVC lever pad handles are hand-operated that allows you to put them on either side of the door.
Euro Cylinder
Cylinder locks are commonly found on uPVC doors, but can also be used on other types of doors. The cylinder lock operates with a key that unlocks the cylinder's casing. This reveals pins that can be aligned with the pins in the lock, and permit them to turn the revolving camera, opening the door. Euro Cylinders can be fitted with up to six pins, with internal and external doors usually having different levels of security.
The selection of a cylinder is essential. It is based on the use that your doors and handles will receive. External doors, for instance should be equipped with cylinders with greater security and internal doors can be secured with a standard cylinder. Certain cylinders come with extra features that can increase security, like anti-drill or anti bump properties.
A euro cylinder must be properly measured to ensure it is the right size for your door. The cylinder should be measured from the hole for fixing screws in the middle to each end of the cylinder and the thumb turn if you have one. It is recommended to do this with the lock in place however, in the event that this is not possible, you can take it off to measure. A cylinder that is protruding beyond the handle and escutcheon could be vulnerable to attacks such as snapping locks, so it is crucial that it's not too long.
Most modern cylinders are designed with bump and anti-drill features that are built into their design. They are designed to decrease the risk of attack by forcing the cylinder to rotate in the opposite direction. This can deflect the attack, and keep your door safe.
Some cylinders are designed to resist snapping. This is a more frequent kind of attack on cylinders where the break line inside the lock is targeted by a tool that is specially designed to break the front of the cylinder and allow the door to be opened. This is much quicker and less difficult than opening the door with multipoint locks. It also leaves little evidence of a break-in, which can impede an insurance claim.
Spring Cassette
The spring cassette is positioned inside the base of the sliding door handles handle backplate, supplying a spring-loaded solution that returns the multipoint lock window handles replacement back to their rest position after using. There was a time when these types of handle did not have a spring built into them, and without it they tend to droop or drop when the locking mechanism is removed. This simple part is the best way to fix this problem. It also helps prevent your door from getting stuck in either the closed or open position as they are difficult to close manually.
These spring cassettes have been specifically made for use with sprung multipoint locks but they won't work with multipoint handles that are not sprung and you will need to have a custom hole cut into the backplate to allow them to fit (please look at the image for a technical diagram). These cassettes are a solution to damaged or missing cassettes that are in the backplate of uPVC door handles. They are available as one unit. They come with a square cut out that accommodates an 8mm shaft.
These spring cassettes provide an excellent value solution for the issue of sagging door handle replacement handles. These spring cassettes are easy to install and will extend the life of your uPVC door. Please contact our team for more information on our range of uPVC accessories and spares.
